workings of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) citizenship amongst queer men in Denmark

In 2019, oral Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), a HIV prevention pill, was made available for ‘at risk’ populations in Denmark with uptake primarily seen amongst men who have sex men. While PrEP has provided both revolutionary and emancipatory shift prevention, providing sexual freedom, safety health, it is accompanied firm medical social surveillance, through which ‘PrEP citizenships’ are produced. This article draws on visual ethnographic data to explore how users experience reflect the types of ‘work’ involved with, moralities arising from, this citizenship’. We argue that citizenship contingent resources abilities individuals proactively engage balance moral ambiguities we demonstrate engagement biomedical methods an inherently practice, making desirable possible some access, but not others.
